FiNALLY the video for Brother Ali’s song “GOOD LORD” was released by three21media recently and it was well worth the wait. This is by far one of my favorite songs and the video which was directed by Rik Cordero is a beautiful expression of the personality of Muslims and really showed a side of Muslims rarely seen in mainstream media. Brother Ali’s music is truly an inspiration to many and an incredible lyricist so check out the video and cop The Truth Is Here EP in stores now.

As a fan of the “conscious” hip hop movement, too often i hear emcees spewing out catch phrases with no depth or forgetting that they still have to rock the crowd but this new Orleans emcee is a real emcee no matter how you label him, Truth Universal is ill. He definitely rocked the crowd last night in Memphis, he has strong delivery, words with depth, and can have fun with it. You know its a dope hip hop show when the crowd goes from screaming ho, ho, to pop locking, all the way into a Family Reunion-ish electric slide with random strangers. Anyway check out this video from Truth and be sure to cop the album from http://truthuniversal.com Also if you are in the Memphis area we have concert footage from the show coming on Channel 17 Monday nights at midnight. And you already know to check out neglectedsound’s podcast (link on the right) for more proof that the South Got Something to Say!!!

Who is Sara Baartman?

Who is Sara Baartman? Many would consider her the first video vixen. A sister that desired the finer things in life but wound up finding that there is a severe piece to luxury. She was famous but died lonely and humiliated and was even tortured in death. Maybe I’m just in a honest mood this week or maybe its like Empee said we get older and see things differently but I found this piece by this sister named Dede Hunt and felt like what she had to say needed to be heard by all the young sisters and brothers out there. Who is Sara Baartman? She is a person we all should know. Thank you Sister Hunt!

Skillz-Hip Hop Confessions

Posted in buzz, entertainment, film, hip-hop, music, theatre, Uncategorized, videos with tags , , , , , , on April 7, 2009 by neglectedsound

You ever had a dirty little hip hop secret? Something that might destroy your hip hop credibility. Imagine if your best friend had never heard a Rakim album or didnt know who DJ Premier was? Well Skillz put ogether a show based on the idea, Hip Hop Confessions, is one of the rawest and truest shows I have seen recently. It is about being open and honest about your true feelings about hip hop minus the politics or political correctness. In this episode Skillz sits around with super producer Bink and DJ Rick Geez and finds out some shocking confessions like never seeing Belly or listening to a whole Outkast album. My hip hop confessions is similar to Skillz because I have never purchased a Outkast album, heard thought they were cool but was never a major fan or cared to purchase an album. Be sure to place some of your hip hop confessions in the comments.
